Easy Elevations for Your Wellness Routine

The world continues to spin madly on, and in times like these, it can be difficult to balance health and wellness with financial constraints. The wellness industry often promotes mindful life upgrades alongside costly remedies that can seem out of touch with our collective consciousness. In times when economic stability can feel uncertain, it is important to remember that wellness is not defined by expensive products or treatments, but rather the cumulative effect of making choices that better our existence. Here are a few ideas for elevating your wellness routine without breaking the bank.

Embrace Grounding Rituals

So much of wellness is based on the art of the ritual — simple steps and tasks that take a presence, a reverence when carried out. Wellness rituals can refer to skincare routines or relaxing bath rituals, but the term can also refer to activities one does to feel grounded in the world. Creating a routine that includes opportunities for reflection is a great way to elevate your wellness while engaging in positive, stimulating pastimes. Meditation, journaling, breathwork, or reading can be great ways to connect with the inner mind and spirit. Spending time in nature can also be deeply restorative, from walking paths to hiking or spending time near water.

Elevate Your Sacred Space

The bath is more than just a menial task — it is the space where we enjoy rituals that leave us cleansed and restored. There are many minor changes one can make to update this space for wellness. Consider tying dried, fragrant herbs or flowers to your shower head — eucalyptus, lavender, or chaparral are some of our favorites here in the desert. Ridding your shower space of plastic can also feel therapeutic. Transferring your shampoo and bodywash to reusable glass jars or bottles from thrift stores is an easy, inexpensive option to upgrade your space aesthetically. Sprinkling a few drops of fragrant essential oils in the tub before running the shower can add a therapeutic twist to enhance your experience.

Be Flexible When Grocery Shopping

Health and wellness routines start from within, and there are always ways that we can improve our grocery shopping habits to elevate both — even when on a budget! Being flexible is often key to doing so. Rather than having a specific vision in mind for produce, consider purchasing local, seasonal produce as a starting point. Not only is this generally less expensive than imported produce, but the seasonal produce is often more flavorful and packed with nutrients. Purchasing from the local farmer’s market is a great way to give back to your community; consider visiting towards the end of the day, when vendors might be inclined to slash prices and offload their hauls rather than bring them back home. Many grocery stores will often run sales on proteins that they are trying to sell as well; being flexible with the cut of meat you desire can lend to more for less.
